Applications

Where the MAC Delivers Results

The MYCELX Advanced Coalescer handles a wide range of oil and water treatment challenges across upstream and midstream operations.

  • Produced Water
    Reinjection

MAC serves as the primary treatment stage ahead of produced water reinjection systems, removing free and dispersed oil and suspended solids to protect injection wellbore integrity and meet stringent injection quality specifications.

  • Oil Separation
    and Recovery

In dual separator configurations, the MAC efficiently removes solids and oil to separate streams in a single process step, reducing overall facility footprint while recovering a clean oil product for recycling and reuse.

  • Rental and
    Rapid Deployment

The MYCELX Advanced Coalescer is available as a rental system for short-term production trials, emergency response, and longer-term leasing—with minimal out-of-pocket investment.

How It Works

From Contaminated Inlet
to Clean Water Output

Unlike traditional gravity separation units, the MACs patented design coalesces small oil droplets into larger ones that are easily removed and recovered.

  1. Inlet:
    Contaminated
    Water Enters

Produced water containing free oil, dispersed oil droplets, and suspended solids enters the MAC vessel from the primary separator.

  2. Coalescence:
    Droplets
    Grow

Two zones of coalescing. Stainless steel plates allow solids to migrate down to the bottom cone head while oil coalesces and rises to the top domed head.

  3. Separation:
    Dual-Stream
    Output

Enlarged oil droplets rise and are accumulated in batches at the top of the vessel. Solids settle to the bottom. Both streams are removed separately, with no shear forces applied to the fluid.

  4. Clean Water
    and Oil
    Recovery

Treated water exits ready for secondary polishing or discharge. Recovered oil is delivered as a neat, sales-quality product ready for resale.

Effluent Quality

Cleaner Water.
Greater Efficiency.

MAC effluent quality is consistently high, even at peak concentrations exceeding 70,000 mg/L. Compared to gun barrel system effluent—which can be 10× worse—the MAC delivers clean, clear water that protects downstream assets.

When paired with the REGEN, the result is recycle-ready water that can be returned to operations or discharged at SWD, driving a full circular water economy for Permian operators.

Performance Benefits

Why Choose the MAC

  1. Single-Step Oil and
    Solids Separation

Removes solids >30 Micron and oil to separate streams in one process step, eliminating the need for a multi-stage primary treatment train and reducing overall system complexity and footprint.

  2. Less Waste and Reduced
    Recycle Energy

No constant skim-to-recycle required. Recovered oil accumulates in batches and is delivered as a neat product, minimizing waste streams and reducing the energy demand associated with continuous recirculation.

  3. Simple Design,
    No Moving Parts

The MAC requires only a single level control point and has no moving parts, delivering high reliability and minimal maintenance burden. No shear forces are imparted to the fluid, preserving droplet size for downstream treatment.

  4. Sales-Quality Oil
    Recovered

Recovered oil is accumulated in batches and delivered as a neat, saleable product for recycling, turning a waste liability into a recoverable asset and improving overall field economics.

  5. Process Upset Tolerance

The MAC is designed to absorb high contaminant loading and sudden process upsets without performance degradation, protecting downstream secondary and tertiary treatment systems from shock loads.

  6. Available for Rental
    and Rapid Deployment

The MYCELX Advanced Coalescer is available as a rental system for production trials, emergency deployment, or pilot projects, enabling operators to validate performance before permanent installation.
