NAVY SHIPYARD ONSHORE BILGE TREATMENT SYSTEM

PA, USA

  • Industrial Water

    Bilge and Marine

Commercial ships have mechanical systems that produce wastewater, and this combines with hydrocarbon spills, deck drains and other sources of oil to form “bilge water.” Bilge water is required to be treated to IMO standards prior to discharge. A complete MYCELX filtration system can meet or exceed and bilge water standard down to < 5 ppm discharge.

Common Problems

Bilge water is a notoriously difficult stream to treat, because of its various sources, long dwell time, bacterial growth, and inclusion of detergents and surfactants.

  • Detergents in fluid and pumping shear form persistent emulsions
  • Extremely limited space for filtration equipment
  • Complex membranes, chemicals, and biological solutions require expensive maintenance and skilled operation
  • Oil coated solids form neutrally buoyant or negatively buoyant particles that defeat typical separation and load final separation devices

Solutions

The MYCELX Coalescer and Polisher have been utilized for bilge systems since 2004, forming a solution that is simple, compact, and economical, yet meets the most stringent demands around the world.

Benefits

  • Simple, compact, and economical
  • Dry, non-hazardous waste produced is compact, easy to handle and properly dispose
  • Requires no dedicated/specialized personnel
  • Small footprint
