FPSO DECOMMISSIONING FOR SEA DISCHARGE PROJECT

MAURITANIA

  • Upstream Oil and Gas

    Onshore Discharge to Environment

Though discharge to the environment is declining, there are still situations where no other feasible alternatives exist. Discharge may occur into nearshore seawater, inland rivers or lakes, or may be an impoundment for evaporation. Regardless, strict discharge guidelines must be met. MYCELX provides solutions to help meet these guidelines with discharge water treatment and filtration.

Common Problems

Discharge regulations typically require extremely low levels of hydrocarbon in effluent that are below conventional treatment capabilities. Even extensive chemical conditioning in upstream unit processes can’t always maintain these limits.

  • Contaminant formation under non-steady state conditions of flow, temperature and water chemistry
  • Small solids coated in oil become neutrally buoyant, avoiding traditional density difference separations
  • Hydrocarbon sheen on surface, endangering wildlife in impoundment pits even at low concentrations (10ppm).
  • Aberrant conditions resulting from the loss of chemical conditioning.

Solutions

MYCELX Polishers have been utilized on oil and gas production facilities discharging to surface impoundment since 2004. Typically applied downstream of secondary treatment equipment in a tertiary mode, the Polisher removes excess oil or hydrocarbons, ensuring compliance to discharge standards. Since 2017, MYCELX REGEN has been used to improve water quality for near shore discharge. REGEN is typically applied in a secondary treatment position.

Benefits

  • Fail safe performance to stringent discharge limits
  • Eliminates hydrocarbon sheen
  • Ease of operations
  • Less waste
